Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance takes place four years after the events of the uprising. Naomi Hunter creates a virus that destroys the system of "Sons of the Patriots", putting an end to the military economy. PMSCs are now acting as peacekeepers and protecting essential people. In this game, you play as Raiden, a cyborg who joins the PMSC to protect his family.
The gameplay of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance centers around Raiden's high-frequency sword, with which he must defeat enemies and cut through objects. The "Free sword mode" allows for more control during attacks, but with less range. Successfully eliminating enemies in Free mode awards points that can be used to restore health and the free sword scale. Silent and quick kills can also be performed on unsuspecting enemies. With at least ten different weapons and a variety of suits available, players can customize their gameplay experience.
